Thunar Circus is a contemporary circus creation group based in Taiwan, taking an artistic and poetic approach to the performances. We hope to carry forward the spirit of contemporary circus, develop the creativity of performers, and provide continuously original and thoughtful circus productions for the national & international stage.
‘Thunar’ is an unlimited free space, in which we experiment and explore the contemporary circus art in these multiple faces. ‘Thunar’ is an unlimited life, in which all of our actions are connected with our culture in order to let our acrobatics represent the humanity. ‘Thunar’ is also a collective space, in which, through sharing the artistic creations of the contemporary circus, artists and audiences link together and reflect on the society that we’re experiencing.
Collaborating with artists from different fields, Thunar Circus explores diverse styles and performing languages for the contemporary circus and pursues divergent ways of seeing.
Missions:
· Dedicating ourselves to the creation of contemporary circus in Taiwan;
· Promoting the concept of arts without boundary by presenting performances in public space;
· Establishing a platform for contemporary circus to nurture more circus artists and their creations;
· Evolving the concept of circus-video;
· Developing international cooperation and exchange to create more possibilities for circus creation;
· Giving scope to the educational, psychological and social functions of circus arts by sharing and interaction with the audience.

2008
林正宗 met Valentin Lechat backstage after Circus shows in Taiwan.. Then, Lin Zhen Zong invited Valentin Lechat to teach a group of young student including himself at the Taiwanese Opera school 國立台灣戲曲學院 in 2009. A class about Contemporary Juggling and Performance.
2010
Valentin Lechat directed a Contemporary Circus show on the name of “五隻手，八個星球和回憶
Five hands, 8 planets and memories” with 國立台灣戲曲學院 with : 曾順國, 葉時廷, 許銘仁, 陳星合, 林正宗, Valentin Lechat 陳星樂.
It is an early creation made short before the Contemporary Circus started to be expend in Taiwan. A starting point of a new generation of Circus artists from TW.

After hours of support on projects, training and talks Valentin Lechat and 林正宗 finally decided to found in Taiwan an official very first International Contemporary Circus Collective “圓劇團 THUNAR Circus” (“THUNAR” is the two first letters of THE UNITED ARTISTS: TH..e UN..ited AR..tists). Concept of a collective is to have a reservor of artistic directors, multi-headed partnership between Oriental World and Western World.
